Pager Gives Back

At Pager, we think it’s important to make sure that as a team, we’re positively impacting the community around us and the world we live in. This month, we focused on ways we can be more environmentally friendly and offered our employees opportunities to volunteer and support their local communities.

Pager Volunteer Week

During Volunteer Appreciation Week on April 18-24, Pager hosted its own Volunteer Week for team members. Throughout the week, the Culture Committee provided education and ways to get involved in our local communities. We hosted a company-wide fundraising event to support Feeding America, a nationwide network of more than 200 food banks that feed more than 46 million people through food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, and other initiatives.

Pager participated in Feeding America’s Lettuce Fight Hunger Challenge, in which every $1 donated provides 10 meals for individuals in need. We encouraged team members to donate to the Challenge via a team-specific link. At specific donation milestones, prizes were raffled off to team members who donated. Prizes included Feeding America-branded materials, like a mug, clothing, an apron, and a tote bag.

For employees interested in giving back to the community by donating food directly to their local food bank, they were encouraged to submit pictures of themselves making donations, and those pictures added them into the raffle for prizes as well.

Pager is collecting donations through the end of April.

Earth Day Education

In addition, in recognition of Earth Day on April 22, our team hoped to provide deeper levels of education around ways that we as individuals can be more environmentally conscious – taking knowledge a level deeper than simply reducing, reusing, and recycling. Our team came together with the hope of sharing knowledge and insights to better understand how our actions impact the environment and community around us. For four days during the week of Earth Day, we highlighted different topics that are key areas to improve our habits to benefit the environment. Take a look at what we learned:

Recycling

Making products from recycled materials saves about 50% of the energy costs associated with making items from new materials. Don’t recycle anything smaller than a credit card – it may jam recycling equipment.

Food waste

⅓ of the food intended for human consumption is lost or wasted every year. Use the edible parts of food you normally don't eat – vegetable scraps can be made into stock.

Energy conservation

More than 25% of energy consumption in homes goes to lighting. Replace light bulbs with fluorescents to reduce your electricity bill and your energy consumption.

Environment

The U.S. is the number-one trash-producing country in the world, meaning 5% of the world's people generate 40% of the world's waste. When shopping on Amazon, be sure to select the “combine packages” option to reduce the packaging in which your items are delivered.

Why We Give Back

It’s important to our team that we find ways to positively impact the environment and the communities we live in. As COVID-19 continues to take a toll on many individuals, we are proud to have the opportunity to give back and support those around us. Thank you to our team for participating in Volunteer Week, offering donations for those in need, and taking the time to learn more about environmentally friendly habits!
