Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at Pager
Since the first Hispanic Heritage Week was celebrated in the U.S. in 1969, the commemoration has expanded to a month-long (September 15 - October 15) annual celebration to recognize the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans in history, culture, and other achievements. With a large population of hispanic team members, including many team members based in South and Central America, we wanted to make sure we recognize Hispanic history and provide a space for our team to share more about their cultures. Because of the planning efforts of a subgroup of the Culture Committee dedicated to cultural awareness, Pager has been celebrating in a number of ways, from a cooking class to a Latin Night with cocktail/mocktail making and Latin dance lessons!

Cooking Class with Pamela Uribe, Senior Technical Recruiter
Our Hispanic Heritage Month celebration kicked off in delicious fashion with the guidance of Senior Technical Recruiter Pamela Uribe. She took us through a simple and traditional Colombian recipe of Chicharrón (pork rind/belly) and fried plantains with Hogao, perhaps Colombia’s most popular sauce.
All Hands Presentation & Happy Hour
The Pager All Hands meeting was the perfect opportunity to have some of our Pager friends delve a little bit into their respective Hispanic heritages and have us reflect on what this month means and the strides we, as a country, still need to make. We had the pleasure of learning a bit about five particular countries where some of our team members are from.
Latin American Movie Night– John Leguizamo's Latin History for Morons
The Hispanic Heritage Month festivities at Pager ended in heart-warming, informative and entertaining fashion with a group viewing of John Leguizamo's Latin History for Morons. John Leguizamo, born in Colombia, has had a long and prosperous career as an actor (Carlito's Way, To Wong Foo, Moulin Rouge!, John Wick among many others). Latin History for Morons, a filmed, solo stage play streaming on Netflix, was born of Leguizamo’s need to help his bullied son, who had been facing ethnic slurs at his private school. As viewers, we take a ride through 3,000 years of Latin history!
At Pager, we value diversity and recognizing the backgrounds that make up our team, as it makes us stronger and better. We were glad to have the opportunity to learn more about the varied cultures and history that makes up Hispanic Heritage today, and to be able to create a space for our team members to share more about their heritage, as well as for others to learn.
